Jamai Sasti is dedicated to the son-in-law and is observed mainly in Bengal state.

Jamai sasti is observed on the 6th day during the Shukla Paksha in the month of Jaishto (May – June) in Bengal. In many regions, Goddess Shasti is worshipped on the day for the wellbeing of the children. Meaning :’Jamai’ means son-in-law and ‘Shasti’ is the sixth day in a fortnight in a traditional Hindu calendar.On this day son in laws are invited at the places of their in laws and treated with maximum honor.

Mother in laws prepares delicious traditional foods, sweets and different eateries son in laws. Hilsa fish which is a delicacy of the Bengalis is cooked on this day for the son in laws. The son-in-law is traditionally welcome to the house on the day and a yellow thread is tied on the wrist. Thus JamaiSasti is celebrated with full devotion as Goddess Sasthi’s blessings are necessary for the well being of children of the house.
